Caught Light
With Caught Light , the Great Lake Swimmers release their ninth album – a work that captures spontaneity, warmth, and the spirit of early 70s folk/pop/rock music. Singer and songwriter Tony Dekker recorded the new songs with producer Darcy Yates and multi-instrumentalist Jimmy Bowskill in Ganaraska Forest. The recordings were completed in just a few days and reflect the band's newfound directness and ease.
The two singles, "One More Dance Around the Sun" and "Wrong, Wrong, Wrong," are at the heart of the album: the former a sunny road-trip song brimming with a sense of home, the latter a lively country shuffle about trust, friendship, and mental strength. Bowskill's virtuoso playing—from pedal steel to mandolin—lends the album a unique, warm sound.
With over 20 years of band history, the Great Lake Swimmers have long been considered a mainstay of the Canadian indie-folk scene. Caught Light shows them at a new beginning: more direct, more vibrant, and with renewed courage to explore uncharted musical territory.
