Interviews with Bruce Labruce, Vaginal Davis and Kathleen Hanna and new interviews with the band are compared with old photos and pictures of live performances by the band. Music is my Boyfriend
Canada 2023, directed by Robert Kennedy
with: Joel Gibb, Bruce Labruce, UA
41 min., Omeu

Music is my boyfriend tells of the beginnings of the band "The Hidden Cameras" in Toronto. The documentary combines interviews with the founding members with a look behind the scenes of a recording session and rarely shown 16 mm films two of their legendary live shows in a church. The film is also a tribute to the band and portrait of the loud, lively queer underground scene, from which it emerged. "The Hidden Cameras" appeared in the Torontos music scene in the early 2000s and immediately delighted with their very idiosyncratic combination of pop and Weird Folk. Led by front man Singer-songwriter Joel Gibb, the ensemble continues its musical provocations to this day.
