Hidden Cameras is the project of singer and songwriter Joel Gibb. The queercore/pop band from Toronto is a loose collective of sometimes almost 20 musicians, but this time Gibb is performing solo as The Hidden Cameras.
Queer anthems, touching lyrics and a strong stage presence characterize the shows of the Canadian act.

SHE SAID BOOM: THE STORY OF FIFTH COLUMN Hegge's documentary about the influential queer feminist cult band Fifth Column from Toronto explores their legacy and explains why they are almost forgotten, even though they strongly influenced the queercore scene of the 80s and 90s in Toronto and worldwide.
Interviews with Bruce LaBruce, Vaginal Davis, and Kathleen Hanna, along with new interviews with the band, are juxtaposed with old photos and recordings of the band's live performances. The result is a compelling visual legacy of punks living outside the system in dilapidated ruins, creating art, music, and fanzines.

MUSIC IS MY BOYFRIEND tells the story of the early days of the Toronto band The Hidden Cameras. The documentary combines interviews with the founding members with behind-the-scenes footage of a recording session and rarely seen 16mm film footage of two of their legendary live shows in a church. The film is both a tribute to the band and a portrait of the loud, vibrant queer underground scene from which they emerged. The Hidden Cameras appeared on Toronto's music scene in the early 2000s and immediately captivated audiences with their unique blend of pop and weird folk. Led by frontman singer-songwriter Joel Gibb, the ensemble continues its musical provocations to this day.
