STRINGS IN HARMONY
A concert of Indian classical music by the Mohan Brothers
Lakshay Mohan – Sitar, Aayush Mohan – Sarod
The sitar and sarod are two of the most traditional and popular instruments in Indian classical music. With 20 and 25 strings respectively, playing these instruments is characterized by meend (gliding) between two notes, which conveys the emotions of the human voice.
The music is based on melodic structures called ragas, which have been part of the repertoire since antiquity. While maintaining the framework of the raga, the Mohan Brothers improvise to create spontaneous musical passages on stage.
A Mohan Brothers concert is characterized by spontaneous musical dialogues between the sitar and sarod, which are an integral part of their innovative musical style. Their music symbolizes the harmonious fusion of the sitar and sarod, revealing two musical souls united in each other's aesthetic vision.
