New Cabinet Exhibition – Virtuoso Strings

The world of master violinists

Virtuoso strings

Virtuosos, composers, and teachers, from the pioneers of the Baroque era to the renowned violinists of the mid-20th century, form the core of this exhibition. The bringing together of original scores, lithographs, photographs, and letters in the exhibition offers a unique glimpse into the personalities of violinists who continue to enchant us.

One of the important themes of this exhibition is that fire is actively carried from tradition into the present.

Private collection of Univ.-Prof.

David Frühwirth

Inspiration from the past brings enthusiasm for the present

For the first time, one of the largest private collections of its kind is being made visible! The exhibition is visually divided into three main sections to showcase the diversity of aspects and the special significance of the violin in music history.

Violin through the ages

We present violinists and composers from the Baroque era, beginning with Geminiani and Corelli; followed by the Viennese Classical period with W.A. Mozart, up to the great virtuosos of the 20th century. We would also like to highlight the quality and value of printed sheet music from the past.

Everything is somehow connected – educational influences and networks

Over a period of 200 years, networks between composers, as well as between educators and their students, are shown – in addition, the development of violin schools from Leopold Mozart onwards is illuminated.
